11-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Detroit Home Shooting
Detroit Police are seeking assistance from the public to locate the individual responsible for a shooting that occurred over the weekend, injuring an 11-year-old boy inside a home.
According to authorities, officers responded to the area of Bramell and Puritan at 2 a.m. on Sunday. There, an unidentified person fired multiple shots into a residence, striking the boy several times.
The child was transported to a hospital, where officials report he is in critical condition.
Pastor Maurice Hardwick, known locally as Detroit’s Street Sweeper, expressed his dismay over the incident. He spoke on the expected consequences of such violence.
“When you go and shoot somebody, you are signing your own death warrant saying I want to be killed by immediate gun violence, because it’s called retaliation,” Hardwick said. “In the streets they call it ‘getting they lick back.’”
Hardwick emphasized the importance of understanding the repercussions before acting.
“When you get caught, and he hauled off in that car, you are going to be crying. I don’t have a lawyer, can I call my mom, you don’t have the bond money, you ain’t going to have a lawyer, you ain’t going to have a house to put up,” he said. “You not thinking about that when you do it, but when you get in jail they think about this—it’s too late.”
Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
