Nonthaburi, Thailand – In a shocking incident, a student opened fire at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located in Nonthaburi province just northwest of Bangkok, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, including two students and three teachers, according to police reports.
Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan detailed the harrowing event, stating multiple gunshots rang out within the school, prompting students to barricade themselves in classrooms for safety as the chaos unfolded. Eyewitness accounts described scenes of panic as students huddled together, waiting for first responders to secure the area.
Approximately one hour after the shooting commenced, police officers facilitated the evacuation of students from the building while emergency medical personnel attended to the wounded both at the scene and in nearby hospitals. Trairong Piwpan reported that 15 individuals were injured, with two in critical condition. Contrarily, Health Minister Pattana Promphat indicated that the number of injuries could be as high as 22, with nine people listed in serious condition. In a grim revelation, Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee disclosed that the shooter had also murdered his two grandparents prior to arriving at the school, escalating the tragedy.
