Two Mothers Arrested After Three Children Found in Hot Car at Redford Township Shopping Plaza

Two mothers were arrested on Thursday after three children were found unsupervised inside a non-running vehicle at a Redford Township shopping plaza during a day of high temperatures, police said. Children's Protective Services has launched an investigation into the incident.

Officers responded to the Redford Plaza, located at the intersection of Telegraph and West Chicago roads, at approximately 5 p.m. after an individual discovered the children inside the vehicle. According to the Redford Township Police Department, the car's engine was off, and its windows were only partially open. No parents or guardians were near the vehicle when it was found.

Police located the two mothers of the children inside the plaza and placed them under arrest. The three children were transported to a local hospital to be treated for heat exposure, and officials confirmed they have since been released.

In a statement released Friday morning, the Redford Township Police Department emphasized the dangers of leaving young children unattended in vehicles, noting that interior temperatures can quickly reach life-threatening levels even with cracked windows.
