California Health Officials Monitor Rising Cyclosporiasis Cases

California is currently experiencing a notable increase in cyclosporiasis cases, reporting a total of 201 confirmed and probable instances between January 1 and July 15, 2023. This spike comes during a summer period when such cases are typically less common, raising alarms among state health officials. Notably, some of these cases are linked to individuals who consumed food at out-of-state Taco Bell restaurants, according to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

The CDC officials noted that the contamination likely stemmed from shredded lettuce supplied to Taco Bell restaurants, tracing back to Taylor Farms, which announced a voluntary recall of various lettuce products sold to restaurants across 27 states.
