Dearborn Father Rescues 6-Year-Old Daughter After Oak Tree Crashes Into Attic Bedroom

A six-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after her father rescued her from the debris of their Dearborn, Michigan, home when a massive red oak tree crashed through the roof early Friday morning. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on June 12, 2026, at a residence located just off Telegraph Road during a period of severe weather and high winds.

Homeowner Moe Makke said his daughter was sleeping in a third-story attic bedroom when the 100-year-old house was struck. Makke, who was sleeping in the basement at the time, heard the crash and rushed upstairs to reach his daughter. He sustained minor injuries from broken glass and rubble while pulling her from the debris.

The young girl was transported to a local hospital, where she remained as of Friday morning. Makke stated that she is expected to recover from her injuries. By Friday morning, tree removal crews were at the scene working to clear limbs and brush away from the damaged home.

The storm that caused the tree to fall was part of a system that brought high winds and prompted a tornado watch across Southeast Michigan overnight. The severe weather left more than 25,000 utility customers without power in the region and caused widespread reports of downed tree limbs in multiple communities.
