TxDOT road closures: Loop 1604, I-10 ramps to close overnight on San Antonio Northwest Side

TxDOT road closures will force overnight lane and ramp shutdowns on the Northwest Side of San Antonio near the University of Texas at San Antonio beginning 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, March 30, the Texas Department of Transportation said.

TxDOT said the work is part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project and is required for bridge construction at the I-10/Loop 1604 interchange. The agency issued a news release outlining specific closures and detours intended to limit disruption to weekend traffic.

Closed lanes and ramps include the westbound Loop 1604 main lanes at the interchange; the eastbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10 flyover ramp; the westbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10 flyover ramp; and the right lane of westbound I-10 main lanes from the exit ramp to La Cantera Parkway through the Camp Bullis Road exit, TxDOT said.

TxDOT advised drivers on westbound Loop 1604 who want to continue past the I-10 interchange to exit at the ramp before the interchange and use the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road to the next available entrance ramp. Drivers on eastbound Loop 1604 heading to westbound I-10 should take the flyover to I-10, follow signs to eastbound I-10, use Exit 558 (De Zavala Road), perform a U-turn at De Zavala and enter the westbound I-10 frontage road to access the westbound main lanes.

TxDOT said drivers on westbound Loop 1604 bound for westbound I-10 should follow the same flyover-to-eastbound routing and use Exit 558 and the De Zavala U-turn to reach the westbound frontage road and main lanes. Signage and law enforcement will be on site to direct traffic, the release added.

The closures are intended to reduce risk during heavy bridge work but will likely cause overnight delays for commuters and weekend travelers; drivers are urged to plan alternate routes. Work is scheduled to end by 5 a.m. Monday, March 30, when lanes are expected to reopen and TxDOT crews will continue to monitor conditions.
