Edward Trejo shooting: Neighbor Paul Flores no-billed by Bexar County grand jury
As of March 25, 2026, authorities in San Antonio say prosecutors will not pursue charges in the fatal shooting of Edward Trejo, who was killed during a Dec. 21 gathering near Cincinnati Avenue. The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office informed the family that a grand jury declined to find probable cause, and the man originally charged has been released.
Friends said Trejo was at a Christmas party at a friend’s home when a neighbor, identified as Paul Flores, arrived complaining about loud music. According to the homeowner, David Alfaro, the encounter grew heated, a physical scuffle occurred and two shots were fired; one bullet grazed Alfaro and a second struck Trejo, killing him. San Antonio Police previously charged Flores with murder and aggravated assault, and their initial report said he recklessly possessed and discharged a firearm with intent to cause serious injury or death. Three months after the shooting Flores was no longer in the county detention center after the grand jury no-billed the case. The DA’s office said the panel did not find probable cause to proceed, noted that probable cause is a lower threshold than proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and acknowledged the family’s disappointment.
Trejo’s relatives and friends say they remain concerned about safety because the accused lives close by and they share a fence. His mother has said she will seek legal counsel and continue seeking accountability. The district attorney’s office said the matter could potentially be refiled in the future.
