Scorching Heat Persists Across Arizona as Monsoon Chances Loom for Next Week
Blistering summer temperatures continue to grip Arizona as a persistent high-pressure system remains anchored just west of the state. While Phoenix is expected to reach a high of 109°F on Friday, the rest of the weekend brings little relief from the heat.
Winds Remain Breezy Statewide
Despite the heat, breezy conditions are forecast across much of the state. In the Phoenix Valley, gusts could reach 20 to 25 mph, while northern Arizona, including Flagstaff, can expect similar wind strength. Areas surrounding the White Sage Fire near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon may see gusts of up to 30 mph, which could further challenge firefighting efforts and evacuation operations.
Weekend Forecast Holds Steady
Phoenix residents should brace for near-identical temperatures through the weekend, with highs of 108°F on Saturday and 109°F on Sunday. Although sunny and dry conditions will prevail, the lingering humidity may make the heat feel even more oppressive. Afternoon winds are likely to remain near 20 mph, but no rain is expected during the weekend.
Hope for Rain Builds Next Week
As the new week begins, monsoonal moisture may finally creep into the state. While daytime highs will still hover near 108°F, a shift in the weather pattern could bring spotty showers and thunderstorms to northern Arizona as early as Saturday, with broader rain chances developing by Monday and Tuesday.
In the Phoenix metro area, storm chances remain low but possible, increasing slightly between Wednesday and Friday. Current forecasts estimate a 10–20% chance of rain for the Valley during that time. If monsoon activity does increase, temperatures may dip slightly, with highs around 105°F to 106°F by midweek.
Ongoing Fire Threat
The White Sage Fire, still burning near the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, continues to pose a concern. With wind gusts forecast to intensify near the fire zone, evacuation orders remain in effect and fire crews remain on alert for rapid changes in fire behavior.
Looking Ahead
Arizona residents should prepare for continued extreme heat and keep a close eye on evolving monsoon forecasts. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and monitor official updates regarding both weather conditions and wildfire activity.
