Burglar Arrested After Killing Dog in West Hollywood Apartment Break-In

Authorities in California have arrested a 27-year-old man accused of breaking into an apartment in West Hollywood and killing his former roommate’s dog. The arrest brings an end to a search that began earlier this month after the violent incident.

Break-In Incident in Early September

The case was first reported in early September when deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) began looking for the suspect, identified as Anmol Bhatia. Investigators said the break-in occurred at an apartment located in the 1200 block of Harper Avenue.

According to deputies, Bhatia had previously been living at the residence but was asked to leave before the incident took place. On September 4, authorities opened their investigation after receiving reports of a burglary at the same apartment.

Security Footage Revealed Animal Cruelty

During the course of their investigation, deputies reviewed security camera footage from the apartment. The video allegedly showed Bhatia breaking into the property and attacking a dog that belonged to his former roommate.

The footage revealed the dog being beaten to death inside the apartment. Deputies confirmed that while the suspect entered the residence unlawfully, no items were stolen during the burglary. The violent act against the dog became the central focus of the case.

Arrest Made With Police Coordination

After weeks of searching, law enforcement agencies tracked down Bhatia on Sunday. At approximately 7:10 p.m., officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department came into contact with him. Acting on a law enforcement bulletin that had been shared with both police and media outlets, the officers detained Bhatia and informed LASD deputies.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Department then took custody of Bhatia. Officials later confirmed that he was booked on charges including burglary, vandalism, and animal cruelty.

Case Developments

Authorities have not provided additional details about future court proceedings or potential sentencing. However, LASD confirmed that the arrest was the result of close cooperation between departments and the use of security evidence in the investigation.

The case has been notable for its violent nature, involving both a break-in and the killing of a household pet. Officials have reiterated that no property was stolen during the burglary, but the cruelty toward the animal has led to serious criminal charges.
