California Science Center to Launch Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center in 2026
The California Science Center has announced that the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will open on November 13, 2026. This new facility will serve as the permanent home for the Space Shuttle Endeavour, displayed in a unique 20-story launch position.
During the announcement, California Science Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rudolph, along with Lynda Oschin, Chairperson of the Mr. and Mrs. Oschin Family Foundation, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, highlighted the center's commitment to science education and innovation. The expansion will nearly double the exhibit space of the Science Center, featuring 100 artifacts and 100 interactive exhibits focused on aerospace.
The Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery will be the centerpiece of the new center, allowing visitors to explore the history of the space shuttle program and its missions. The gallery will also include educational experiences such as a 140-foot ascent elevator and a 45-foot descent slide simulating shuttle landings.
As of now, the space shuttle stack is complete, but further installation of artifacts and exhibits is ongoing. The project has raised nearly $410 million towards its $450 million budget, with general admission to the California Science Center remaining free.
Timed reservations will be required for entry to the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center due to expected high demand. For updates on reservations, visitors can check the California Science Center's website.
