Man Found Dead After Standoff and Fire in Woodland Hills Home

A man was discovered deceased following a standoff with police that ended in a fire at a townhome in Woodland Hills on Sunday evening. The incident began around 3:15 p.m. on the 5700 block of Owensmouth Avenue when the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a domestic violence call. SWAT officers were deployed at approximately 6 p.m. after the suspect refused to leave the residence.

During the standoff, tear gas was utilized in an effort to coax the suspect out. The situation escalated when the home, part of a three-unit complex, caught fire, which investigators believe was ignited by the suspect. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the structure fire at about 6:41 p.m., noting heavy smoke and gunfire coming from the two-story building.

Residents in the vicinity were evacuated as more than 60 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze into Monday morning. Once officials were able to enter the home, they found the suspect deceased inside. A woman, believed to be the suspect's wife, sustained injuries during the incident. No further details have been released.
