Tragedy Strikes on Kanpur-Itawa Highway as Bus Overturns, One Dead and 16 Injured



A tragic accident on the Kanpur-Itawa highway claimed one life and left 16 others injured after a Janrath bus collided with a dumper. The bus, traveling from Agra to Varanasi, was being driven by a driver who reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the crash. The incident occurred near the Raniya Mantora Overbridge in Kanpur Dehat.

Around 1:30 AM on Sunday, the bus reached the overbridge when the driver dozed off, losing control and crashing into the dumper ahead. The impact caused chaos among the passengers, and many were left screaming for help. Local authorities quickly responded and rushed the injured passengers to a nearby medical college for treatment.

One of the injured, 60-year-old Rajendra Prasad from Ladukheda Ranjitpura, Agra, succumbed to his injuries around 3:00 AM. The others were treated for various injuries, with five passengers suffering serious wounds. The incident has sparked a wave of concern about the safety of road travel in the region, especially at night.

Among the injured were individuals from various areas, including Gaurav from New Janta Colony, Samir Khan from Peerkhak, Ramendra Kumar from Khetam, and several others from places like Agra, Kanpur, and Ballia. Authorities, including SP Arvind Mishra and CO Priya Singh, visited the site and spoke with the injured. The SP confirmed that the accident was caused by the driver falling asleep.

This heartbreaking incident underscores the importance of road safety, particularly during long-distance travel. Authorities have pledged to investigate further and take steps to prevent such accidents in the future, emphasizing the need for vigilance among drivers and stricter enforcement of regulations.
