Suspect Arrested in Death of Man Found Bound to Wheelchair in Phoenix
Phoenix police have arrested a 41-year-old man, Hector Corrales, on suspicion of kidnapping and first-degree murder following the death of 33-year-old Aaron Goodyke. Officers responded to reports of trouble near a canal just south of Baseline Road on Thursday night, where they discovered Goodyke dead in a wheelchair, his hands and chest bound with plastic bags.
Witnesses reported seeing Goodyke earlier that evening, appearing tied up and mumbling, before one of them later found him deceased. Police documents indicate that Goodyke had health issues, including diabetes and a recent leg amputation, and had been staying with Corrales' mother.
According to statements from Corrales' mother, attempts were made to take Goodyke to the hospital, but he became combative. She claimed that another unidentified man helped restrain Goodyke and wheeled him away from the home toward the canal. Video evidence reportedly shows Corrales and the other man tying up Goodyke before he fell backward, hitting his head against the house.
Corrales was arrested on Saturday at his mother's home on a prior felony warrant and has not spoken to investigators. His DNA and fingerprints were collected for evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and it remains unclear if the second man involved has been apprehended.
