Man Charged with Murder After Confessing to Killing of Woman Found in Houston Stormwater Basin
Houston police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man with murder in connection with the death of a transgender woman whose body was discovered in a stormwater catch basin last month. The suspect, Daniel Arnulfo Ceron, is accused in the killing of 33-year-old Persia Amarra Conway.
According to the Houston Police Department, pedestrians walking along 8950 Country Creek Drive discovered Conway's body at approximately 8:15 a.m. on May 25. The location is adjacent to Brays Bayou. Conway was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later classified her death as a homicide.
Investigators initially identified Ceron as a person of interest in the homicide. He was first taken into custody by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Burglary/Theft Unit on unrelated burglary charges in Fort Bend County. After learning Ceron was wanted for questioning in the Houston homicide, Fort Bend County investigators contacted Houston police. During a subsequent interview, Ceron confessed to his role in Conway's death, police said.
The Houston Police Department's Westside Division Gang Unit arrested Ceron on Wednesday. He now faces a murder charge, and the Houston Police Department's homicide division is continuing its investigation into the case.
