Heat Advisory Issued for Houston as Temperatures Soar

A heat advisory is in effect for the Houston area from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with heat index values potentially reaching 110 degrees. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor activities.

The advisory covers much of Southeast Texas, where high humidity combined with triple-digit temperatures will make it increasingly hazardous to be outside. Officials warn that the heat could challenge Houston's daily record high of 101 degrees, set in 1907.

Conditions are expected to worsen on Wednesday as a high-pressure system strengthens over the region, leading to even hotter temperatures. After sunset, temperatures will only drop into the upper 70s and lower 80s, providing little relief.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and limit strenuous outdoor activities to the morning or evening. Precautions should also be taken to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations, including older adults and young children.

Forecast models indicate that while temperatures may ease slightly later in the week, afternoons will remain hot and humid, with only a slight chance of isolated showers returning late this weekend or early next week.
