Two Bank Employees Fatally Shot During Robbery in Berea; Suspect Sought by Police
Two employees were shot and killed Thursday during a robbery at a U.S. Bank branch in Berea, Kentucky, according to Kentucky State Police. Authorities said the suspect, described as a man approximately 6-foot-3 and wearing a light-colored hoodie, mask, and gloves, entered the bank and fatally shot a man and a woman who worked there. The victims' names have not been released.
Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot. It was not immediately clear if anything was taken from the bank during the incident. Local and state police responded to the scene, along with the FBI and other federal agencies. State police released a photo of the suspect and have asked the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
Nearby schools were temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution, and students were picked up by parents after officials determined the campuses were safe, police said. U.S. Bank stated it is cooperating with law enforcement and supporting the families of the victims and employees affected by the shooting.
The search for the suspect is ongoing, and authorities said they are following leads in the case.
