Angel Reese Joins Atlanta Dream After Trade From Chicago Sky
Angel Reese, a standout forward and one of the WNBA's top rebounders, has officially begun her tenure with the Atlanta Dream following a high-profile trade from the Chicago Sky earlier this month. Reese addressed the media in Atlanta on Friday, sharing her optimism about joining a roster she believes has the talent and ambition to contend for a championship.
The Dream completed their acquisition of Reese on April 6, sending the Sky first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028, along with the right to swap second-round picks in 2028. Reese arrives after two seasons in Chicago, where she led the league in rebounds both years and averaged 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game during the most recent season.
Reese expressed appreciation for her time in Chicago but said she was seeking a more competitive environment. “I wanted more,” she said, emphasizing her desire to win and her belief that being surrounded by talented teammates in Atlanta will elevate her game and help the team pursue its goals.
The Dream recently re-signed five key players, including All-Star guard Rhyne Howard, who highlighted Reese’s importance to the team’s championship ambitions. Other returning players include Allisha Gray, Brionna Jones, Jordin Canada, and Naz Hillmon—all noted for their significant contributions last season, which saw Atlanta win a franchise-record 30 games before falling to Indiana in the playoffs.
Reese’s move to Atlanta followed public frustration with Chicago's roster decisions and the Sky’s 10-34 finish last season. Her late-season comments sparked a brief suspension and speculation about her future before the trade was finalized. Dream general manager Dan Padover described bringing in Reese as a key step in building a roster capable of competing at the highest level.
As training camp approaches on April 19, Atlanta’s roster stands at 19 players. The team aims to build on last season’s momentum with Reese now part of its core lineup. The Dream and their new star are preparing for a campaign focused on contention and cohesion, with all eyes on a possible championship run.
