Former Hospital Worker Charged With $2.5 Million Medical Supply Theft in Camden

A former surgical technician at Cooper University Health Care in Camden, New Jersey, has been charged with stealing approximately $2.5 million worth of medical supplies and reselling them out of state, authorities announced Monday.

Marci M. Staub, 44, is accused of impersonating a medical supply vendor while reselling devices—including Medtronic Infuse bone grafts—to a company in South Carolina, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors reported that financial records indicate Staub received over $427,000 in payments related to these unauthorized sales.

The alleged theft came to light on October 2, when hospital staff discovered discrepancies between inventory records and actual supplies, noting that orders for certain devices were being refilled far more frequently than patient care needs justified. Officials stated the unusual purchasing pattern occurred from December 2024 through July. Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives from November to December 2025 reportedly showed Staub arriving at work with an empty bag and leaving with it full of medical supplies.

Staub has been charged with theft, receiving stolen property, distribution of prescription drugs, and impersonation of a representative of a medical organization. She was apprehended in December by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office as she exited the hospital carrying medical supplies, prosecutors said.

In a statement, Cooper University Health Care confirmed it promptly terminated Staub’s employment and reported the theft to law enforcement, emphasizing its policy of zero tolerance for illegal activity and ongoing cooperation with the investigation.

Staub remains in custody at the Camden County Correctional Facility. Authorities have not disclosed whether she has obtained legal counsel. The investigation is ongoing.
