Trenton Mass Shooting Leaves Two Dead and Eight Injured on Locust Street

Violence Erupts at Unsanctioned Block Party in Wilbur District

TRENTON, New Jersey — A violent mass shooting erupted early Sunday morning in Trenton, New Jersey, leaving two people dead and eight others wounded. The gunfire broke out at approximately 12:25 a.m. in the 100 block of Locust Street, located in the Wilbur section of East Trenton, according to statements released by the Trenton Police Department.

Responding officers arrived at the scene to find a chaotic situation with multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man succumbed to their injuries, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office confirmed. The eight surviving victims — six women and two men ranging in age from 23 to 43 — were transported to local hospitals where they have since been stabilized.

Gunmen Open Fire on Residential Street Crowd

Preliminary investigations reveal that multiple suspects approached the gathering on foot and suddenly fired into the crowd of roughly 100 people. Crime scene investigators recovered more than 50 spent shell casings from Locust Street, indicating a heavy exchange of gunfire that also struck several parked vehicles in the area.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora stated that the incident took place during a large, unauthorized adult block party. "People should not be hosting unauthorized street parties without involving local law enforcement," Gusciora said, adding that the city plans to implement stronger measures to block similar gatherings in the future.

Community Mourns Loss of Local Youth Mentor

One of the deceased victims was identified by community members as a local advocate who worked closely to help and mentor area youth. The individual, who had recently returned to the community after being incarcerated, had been recognized locally for his positive contributions to Trenton's neighborhoods.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy's office has been briefed on the situation, and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force is actively investigating the shooting. No suspects have been arrested, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown.
