Gary Clemons Wins Kentucky Senate District 37 Special Election
Gary Clemons won the special election for Kentucky State Senate District 37 in Louisville, Kentucky, as announced by the Kentucky Democratic Party on Tuesday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Clerk’s unofficial election result report at the time of publication, Clemons received 3,752 votes out of a total of 5,178 ballots cast in the race. He ran as the Democratic nominee in a three-way contest.

The unofficial report from the Jefferson County Clerk shows that Republican candidate Calvin Leach received 1,297 votes. Libertarian candidate Wendy Higdon received 121 votes. The report also indicates that eight ballots were cast as write-in votes.

Gary Clemons is an Army veteran and serves as president of Louisville’s chapter of the United Steelworkers Local. He was the Democratic nominee in the three-way race for the District 37 seat.
Clemons is scheduled to be sworn into office on the first day of the 2026 legislative session in Frankfort, Kentucky. Upon being sworn in, he will assume the duties of state senator for Kentucky State Senate District 37.
