Man Shot by Police After Northwest Houston Vehicle Chase
A man was in critical condition on Thursday morning, December 4, 2025, after Houston Police Department officers shot him following a vehicle chase in northwest Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, an officer stopped the man at 8:41 a.m. for an expired vehicle registration in northwest Houston. The man, whose name was not released, was accused of felony theft and had an active felony warrant for his arrest at the time of the traffic stop.
Traffic Stop Escalates to Pursuit and Gunfire
Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra stated that the man initially complied with the traffic stop and provided his driver’s license and registration to the officer. When the officer ran the man’s identification, the officer discovered the felony warrant, according to police.
Police said the officer then requested backup. As officers approached the vehicle a second time, the man drove away, prompting officers to begin a pursuit. Menendez-Sierra reported that during the pursuit, the man fired a pistol at the pursuing officers.
Crash and Officer-Involved Shooting on Antoine Drive
Police stated that the chase ended when the man lost control of his vehicle and struck a pole near the 3400 block of Antoine Drive in northwest Houston. According to Menendez-Sierra, the man attempted to flee on foot after the crash and continued firing a gun at officers.
Houston police officers returned fire and struck the man multiple times. Police reported that the man was transported in critical condition. No officers or other people were injured, according to the Houston Police Department.
Passengers, Arrest, and Investigation
Houston police reported that two women were in the vehicle with the man during the incident. Officers said they did not immediately know the relationship between the man and the women. According to police, one of the women also had a felony warrant related to a family violence offense and was arrested.
The Houston Police Department’s homicide division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office will conduct concurrent investigations into the shooting. Police stated that the two officers who shot the man are eight-year and seven-year veterans of the department.
