Shooting at Lucky Eagle Casino Leaves Two Dead, Suspect Apprehended


Two people were killed and five others critically injured during a shooting at the Lucky Eagle Casino on the Kickapoo reservation in Eagle Pass, Texas, United States of America, late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. during a raffle event that drew a large crowd.

Details of the Shooting

According to law enforcement, the suspect fled the scene in a black Nissan truck. Authorities located and apprehended the individual in Stockdale, Wilson County, using a taser. A weapon was recovered, and the suspect is being escorted back to Eagle Pass. The identities and gender of the suspect have not been released.

One male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female victim died en route to the hospital. Five additional victims were airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio in critical condition. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, seeing a person on the ground, and chaos as people attempted to flee the casino. Some bullets struck an entrance door and a slot machine inside the casino.

Law Enforcement Response

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, tribal police, and Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, with support from the FBI and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities are asking anyone who was at the casino and may have photos, videos, or information regarding the shooting to contact the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.

Community and Tribal Response

Maverick County officials described the shooting as a tragedy for the community. Congressman Tony Gonzales and State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. released statements condemning the act and emphasizing the need for unity. The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas confirmed the fatalities and ongoing investigation and expressed gratitude to responding law enforcement agencies.

Lucky Eagle Casino, the largest casino in Texas, operates on Kickapoo reservation land near the Rio Grande. The resort features over 3,300 slot machines, live poker, bingo, multiple restaurants and bars, and a 249-room hotel.
