Fourth Suspect Arrested in Charlotte Shooting That Killed 4-Year-Old
Authorities have arrested a fourth suspect in the fatal shooting of a 4-year-old boy in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. The victim, identified as Jayce Edwards, was killed in a Steele Creek neighborhood early Wednesday morning during an attempted vehicle theft.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), suspects attempted to steal a Dodge Charger parked outside a home on Cigar Court around 6 a.m. on September 17, 2025. During the incident, gunfire erupted, striking the home where Jayce was asleep. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CMPD announced Thursday that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime. The individuals were identified as 24-year-old Marquise Geurrier, 20-year-old Angelo Hudson, and 23-year-old Jordon Davis. They were taken into custody by CMPD’s Steele Creek Division and SWAT team, interviewed by homicide detectives, and charged with first-degree murder. All three remain in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office without bond.
On Thursday morning, a fourth suspect, identified as 18-year-old Anthony Abel, was arrested in Raleigh. His capture was made possible through cooperation between the Raleigh Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team. Abel is also facing a first-degree murder charge and will be extradited to Mecklenburg County. Detectives are traveling to Raleigh to interview him.
Investigators reported that the suspects arrived at the scene in a stolen Dodge Durango, which had been taken earlier from Cabarrus County. Court documents indicate the group fled the scene in multiple stolen vehicles, including a Jeep and a Chevy Camaro connected to a theft in York County, South Carolina. Surveillance footage and evidence helped police track the suspects.
Authorities confirmed that Hudson confessed to being present during the attempted car theft and hearing gunfire, which he claimed came from someone inside the Durango. Based on his statements and other evidence, CMPD established probable cause to charge all suspects with murder.
The investigation involved collaboration among CMPD, the York County Sheriff’s Office, and the SCARLET team. Police credited community support as vital in advancing the case. Jayce’s family has been informed of the arrests, and officials stated the investigation remains active as they seek justice for the young victim.
