24 Arrested During Teen Gathering at Romare Bearden Park in Charlotte
Twenty-four individuals were arrested and 13 parents cited during a large gathering of over 200 teenagers at Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday, June 20. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the event, which was characterized as a 'teen takeover,' by deploying additional resources to maintain order and disperse the crowd.
Of those arrested, 23 were teenagers, while the parents were cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Additionally, one firearm was seized during the incident. Chief of Police Estella D. Patterson emphasized the department's zero-tolerance policy for criminal activity, particularly violations of the Youth Protection Ordinance, stating that both juveniles and their parents would be held accountable for such actions.
The police department's response reflects ongoing efforts to address safety and accountability in public spaces, particularly concerning youth gatherings.
