Philadelphia Man Sentenced to Over Eleven Years for Armed Carjacking in Northeast Neighborhood
Guilty Plea Leads to Federal Prison Sentence
A 25-year-old Philadelphia resident, Leevah Mills, has been sentenced to more than eleven years in federal prison for his role in a violent carjacking that took place in Northeast Philadelphia on June 11, 2023. Mills pleaded guilty to charges of carjacking and firearm violations connected to the assault and theft.
Officials confirmed that Mills received a sentence of 135 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. In addition, he has been ordered to pay $42,909 in restitution.
Armed Attack and Carjacking Incident
The incident occurred after a 26-year-old man parked his car near his home in Northeast Philadelphia. Mills, along with two accomplices, Emmanuel Sia and Kysime Brown, confronted the victim while brandishing semiautomatic pistols. During the confrontation, the victim was pistol-whipped before the men stole his Dodge Charger.
Authorities reported that the vehicle was later recovered after a police chase. The pursuit ended when the suspects crashed the car into a pole on Castor Avenue. The Dodge Charger caught fire and was destroyed in the crash.
Ongoing Sentencing for Accomplices
While Mills has been sentenced, his two accomplices have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting their own sentences. All three men were linked to the same carjacking incident that left the victim traumatized and the community shaken.
Statement on Public Safety
In response to the sentencing, officials emphasized the seriousness of armed carjackings. They described the crime as an act that not only harms the immediate victim but also instills fear within entire communities. The sentencing, they said, represents both accountability for Mills and a broader commitment to ensuring public safety.
