Tragedy in San Jose as Man in Wheelchair Killed in Early Morning Hit and Run
Fatal Collision in South San Jose
An early morning tragedy unfolded in South San Jose when a pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck and killed in a hit and run crash. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 2:34 a.m. at the intersection of Hayes Avenue and Lily Ann Way.
How the Crash Happened
According to the initial investigation, a 2017 silver Mercedes sedan was traveling northbound on Lily Ann Way when it entered the intersection of Hayes Avenue. The vehicle hit a man in a wheelchair who was on the north curb of Hayes Avenue. After the impact, the car continued forward and crashed into an iron fence.
Life Lost Despite Emergency Efforts
The pedestrian was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he did not survive his injuries. His identity has not yet been released, as authorities are waiting to notify the family.
Driver Arrested Shortly After Fleeing
The driver of the Mercedes fled the crash scene immediately after the collision. Within minutes, officers located him at a nearby residence. He was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, manslaughter, and related charges.

This tragic event marks the 22nd fatal collision in San Jose this year and the 12th involving a pedestrian. The rising toll highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the city.
