Muon Space Launches New Satellite Manufacturing Facility in San Jose
Muon Space has officially opened a new 130,000-square-foot satellite manufacturing facility in San Jose, California, aimed at enhancing its production capacity for satellite constellations. The grand opening, held on June 22, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, including Congressman Jimmy Panetta and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
The facility, referred to as the Mission Foundry, is designed to support the production of up to 500 satellites annually, with capabilities for various mission types ranging from small to large spacecraft. It includes 70,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 30,000 square feet of cleanroom facilities, representing a significant expansion from Muon’s previous site.
Muon CEO Jonny Dyer emphasized the facility's role in meeting the urgent demands of commercial, civil, and national security markets. The site is equipped with a 300-kW solar array to power operations and complies with UL 2050 security standards for defense programs.
Although the official opening was celebrated recently, production at the facility had already commenced, reflecting Muon’s commitment to an aggressive delivery schedule. The new site is expected to bolster Muon’s presence in the San Jose technology sector and support a growing list of government and commercial clients.
