Summary:
A juvenile faces charges in Harris County following an attempted sexual assault of a female pedestrian at Jesse Jones Park.
A criminal charge has been filed in Harris County against a juvenile male for the attempted sexual assault of a female walking alone at Jesse Jones Park.
On July 17, an 18-year-old female contacted deputies after an attack at Jesse Jones Park, according to Constable Mark Herman. She reported being attacked from behind by a male suspect. The assailant reportedly covered her nose and mouth, attempting to suffocate her. He forced her to the ground and tried to remove her clothing, but she resisted, struggled, and cried out. Officials state the suspect then fled, heading back toward a nearby neighborhood.
Constable Herman confirmed that the Special Victim's Unit investigated the assault. Their investigation utilized Ring doorbell camera footage from the day of the incident, which, combined with subsequent interviews, aided in identifying the suspect.
The individual was identified as a 16-year-old male residing in the vicinity. He was taken into custody on July 25 and charged with attempted sexual assault. Officials noted that the teenager is presently under juvenile probation, and authorities are pursuing efforts to try him as an adult.
Investigators also suspect this juvenile is the same individual who assaulted another female jogger in February. Additionally, park staff have received complaints from other female victims regarding attacks, leading authorities to believe there may be more victims.
