Phoenix Man Indicted in Fatal Shooting of Father, Injury to Mother
An 18-year-old man from Phoenix has been indicted following a shooting that resulted in the death of his father and injuries to his mother in June.
A Phoenix man has been indicted in connection with a shooting that left his father dead and his mother injured last month.
A Maricopa County grand jury indicted 18-year-old Victor Donovan Morales-Jimenez earlier this month on multiple felony charges, including murder.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the area of 7th Street and Dobbins Road. Officers entered the home and found 48-year-old Victor Morales Lubvio with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. Nearby, a woman was also located with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Both individuals were transported to a hospital, where Lubvio was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The woman was treated and released.
The victims were identified as the parents of Morales-Jimenez, who was named as the suspected shooter.
According to court documents released a few days after the shooting, a witness reported that Lubvio had been hitting Morales-Jimenez’s mother and another person, which led to a physical altercation. After the situation appeared to calm down and witnesses went outside, they heard gunfire.
The documents state that one witness saw Morales-Jimenez outside the residence after the shooting, holding a long gun. Police recovered a rifle from the backyard that reportedly matched shell casings found near the victims.
Morales-Jimenez later turned himself in. On July 8, he was indicted for second-degree murder, aggravated assault, three counts of disorderly conduct, and two counts of misconduct involving weapons. He is currently held on a $1 million secured appearance bond, with his trial tentatively scheduled to begin in November.
