Club Owner Among Two Killed and Fifteen Wounded in Drive-By Shooting Outside Southeast Houston Nightclub

A devastating drive-by shooting outside a southeast Houston nightclub late Sunday night has left two people dead and fifteen others wounded, including the club’s well-known owner. Authorities are now working to unravel the events that led to one of the city’s most violent nights this year.

According to preliminary information from the Houston Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 11:45 p.m. outside Bug’s Bar, located near the intersection of Dixie Drive and Mykawa Road, just off Loop 610.

Police say a black sedan drove past the nightclub and opened fire into a crowd gathered outside. The sudden burst of gunfire struck 17 people, killing two and injuring fifteen more. Some of the victims were rushed to hospitals in ambulances, while others transported themselves for emergency treatment.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. The second fatality was Paul “June Bug” Stevenson, the 48-year-old owner of Bug’s Bar, who later died at the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.

The 15 surviving victims, all of whom are expected to recover, included eight males between the ages of 17 and 52 and seven females aged 14 to 21. Investigators have not yet confirmed how many individuals were inside the vehicle or whether more than one shooter was involved. Authorities believe at least one of the suspects may be a minor.

Bug’s Bar, where the tragedy unfolded, has a recent history of violent incidents. In March, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed following an altercation at the same location. In the following months, police reports show officers responded to various calls, including a burglary report in May, although no major incidents were recorded during an April patrol.

Detectives are now combing through surveillance footage, gathering forensic evidence, and conducting interviews with witnesses who were present at the time of the shooting. Officials are urging anyone with information that could help identify those responsible to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

As the community mourns the loss of Paul Stevenson, who was known not only as a nightclub owner but also as a respected local barber, the city is once again forced to confront the ongoing threat of gun violence in public gathering spaces.
