Thirteen-Year-Old Arrested in Austin Homicide Case After Intense Manhunt Ends in San Marcos

Young Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Barricade and Firearm Recovery

In a case that has shocked the Austin community, a 13-year-old juvenile has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection to a deadly shooting that occurred last month in Southeast Austin. The arrest marks the end of a multi-agency manhunt that concluded with a tense standoff in San Marcos.

Fatal Shooting on Ross Road Sparks Urgent Investigation

The incident in question took place on May 3 at the intersection of Ross Road and Thome Valley Drive in Austin, where a violent altercation resulted in the death of an individual. Following the tragic event, the Austin Police Department’s Homicide Division immediately launched an in-depth investigation to identify and locate the suspect.

After gathering sufficient evidence, detectives obtained an arrest warrant from the Travis County Magistrate Court on June 4 for a 13-year-old suspect believed to be involved in the shooting.

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Leads Tactical Operation

In an effort to locate the juvenile suspect, the Austin Police Department requested assistance from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, a multi-agency team operating under the leadership of the U.S. Marshals. The team, which includes officers and agents from various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, took swift action to track down the suspect.

After days of investigation, the task force identified the suspect’s possible location at a residence in the 1800 block of Post Road in San Marcos.

When officers arrived at the residence, they were met with resistance, leading to a barricaded situation. After a coordinated tactical effort, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Firearm Recovered During Search Warrant Execution

Following the suspect’s arrest, officers executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, authorities recovered a .40 caliber pistol, which will now be examined as part of the ongoing investigation. While it is yet to be confirmed whether this weapon was used in the May 3 shooting, its discovery adds a new layer of complexity to the case.

The juvenile has since been transferred back to Austin Police custody and was arraigned in Austin Municipal Court.

Community in Shock as Authorities React

News of such a serious charge involving someone so young has prompted widespread concern and reflection throughout the Austin area. The gravity of the charge—capital murder—underscores the severity of the crime, and the juvenile’s age has brought added emotional weight to the case.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity due to the age of the individual, in accordance with legal protections for minors.

Agencies Involved in Coordinated Effort

The successful apprehension of the suspect was the result of an extensive joint operation. Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Austin involved in the case included:

Austin Police Department Tactical Intelligence Unit

Police Departments from Georgetown, Round Rock, and San Marcos

Sheriff’s Offices of Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties

Texas Attorney General’s Office

Texas Department of Criminal Justice Office of the Inspector General

Texas Department of Public Safety

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Homeland Security Investigations

This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of interagency coordination in tracking down fugitives and protecting public safety.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings and Community Dialogue

The case now proceeds through the judicial system, with further hearings and investigations likely in the coming weeks. While much of the focus remains on the legal process, the incident has sparked important conversations within the community about youth violence, access to firearms, and intervention strategies to prevent tragedies like this from occurring again.

As more details emerge, the Austin community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this shocking case and awaits justice for the victim and those affected.
