London Police Given Extra Time to Question Suspect in Arson Attacks Linked to Keir Starmer

A 21-year-old man arrested in connection with a series of suspected arson attacks linked to Keir Starmer has been given an additional 36 hours of police custody, allowing detectives to continue their investigation into whether three separate incidents are connected. The suspect was taken into custody early Tuesday at a property in Sydenham, south London, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He can now be held until Friday morning as the inquiry unfolds.

The suspected arson incidents involve properties once owned or associated with the Prime Minister, including a family home in northwest London that Starmer currently rents out, a flat he formerly owned, and a car he previously possessed. Investigators are working to establish if these incidents are part of a coordinated attack.

Thankfully, none of the incidents resulted in any injuries. However, police reported damage to the entrance of the family home located in Kentish Town. While Starmer himself lives at his official residence in Downing Street, the four-bedroom house in question is reportedly rented out to his sister-in-law and her family.

The attacks sparked swift reactions in Parliament during Prime Minister’s Questions. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch expressed her horror over the events, emphasizing that the attacks were not just against Starmer personally but an affront to democracy itself. “It is completely unacceptable,” she stated, “and I think I speak for the whole House when I say this was an attack not just on him but on all of us and the democratic values we uphold.”

In response, Starmer thanked Badenoch for her supportive words, noting her prompt personal message following the news. “She is absolutely right that it was an attack on all of us, on democracy, and on the values we stand for,” he said.

Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, also extended his sympathies and support to the Prime Minister. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover the full circumstances behind these troubling events.
