LONDON, United Kingdom — The United Kingdom, France, and Canada have announced sweeping joint trade restrictions prohibiting imports produced in Israeli settlements across the occupied West Bank.

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that the import ban is intended to uphold international law and increase pressure against settlement expansion while supporting long-term peace negotiations. France and Canada echoed the measure, enacting corresponding import barriers.

Diplomatic Friction Increases Following Israeli Response

In response to the trade sanctions, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticized the decision as unwarranted interference in regional affairs and announced plans to restrict operations at the British consulate in East Jerusalem.

While European allies and Canada aligned on the trade restrictions, U.S. state department officials indicated that the United States would not join the import ban, maintaining existing bilateral trade agreements.
