Major Shake-Up in Uttarakhand Administration Brings Fresh Faces and New Responsibilities Across the State

In a sweeping administrative reshuffle that took place late Saturday night, the Uttarakhand government reassigned the responsibilities of 38 officials, including 25 from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), 12 from the Provincial Civil Service (PCS), and one from the Secretariat Service. The move is seen as a major restructuring effort aimed at strengthening governance and improving departmental efficiency across the state.

One of the most notable changes is the appointment of Abhishek Ruhela as the new Director General of Education, replacing Jharna Kamthan, who will now serve as Additional Secretary for Finance. In another key development, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has been relieved of his responsibilities in Finance, Personnel, and Vigilance, and will now serve as Chief Resident Commissioner and Chief Investment Commissioner in Delhi, in addition to leading all three state energy corporations.

R.K. Sudhanshu, Principal Secretary, has been entrusted with additional charges including Finance and Agriculture Production Commissioner. L. Fanai will now also take on the role of Infrastructure Development Commissioner. Meanwhile, Shailesh Bagauli, Secretary to the Chief Minister, will handle the Personnel and Vigilance Department alongside his current portfolio of Home Affairs.

Significant departmental shifts also occurred in health, disaster management, revenue, and cooperative sectors. Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary now oversees AYUSH and AYUSH Education, while Ranveer Singh Chauhan has been assigned state property matters. Several officials under waiting lists were brought back into active roles, such as Sridhar Babu Addanki, who has been given the charge of Planning.

Further changes include reshuffling at the district level. District Magistrate of Haridwar, Karmendra Singh, has been removed from his additional role as Kumbh Mela Officer, and Mayur Dixit, DM of Tehri, has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the District Development Authority. PCS officer Banshilal Rana has taken on the role of Additional CEO of Tourism, while others, including Ashok Kumar Pandey, have been moved to prominent positions like Controller of Examinations at the Public Service Commission.

These reassignments mark a strategic overhaul of the state’s administrative machinery, aiming to bring in new energy, accountability, and responsiveness. With key posts now held by a fresh mix of experienced and rising officers, the government hopes to accelerate development and enhance service delivery across Uttarakhand.
