Stormy Skies Ahead as Bihar Braces for Thunder, Rain and Hail
Bihar’s weather is taking a dramatic turn yet again, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat but also triggering new concerns. After a scorching start to the week, parts of the state were treated to showers on Sunday afternoon, transforming the atmosphere into a welcome blend of cool breezes and cloudy skies. But the relief may be short-lived, as more unstable weather is on the way.
An orange alert has been issued for several northern and central districts, warning of strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, lightning, and the possibility of hail. Weather systems active over central Assam and extending from Uttar Pradesh through Bihar to northern Bangladesh are fueling these changes. As a result, Bihar is expected to see more rain and storm activity over the next three days.
In Patna, the temperature dropped sharply — by as much as 7 degrees — bringing the maximum down to 36.5°C. The city had been reeling under intense heat, but the recent rain brought some temporary comfort. Other cities like Gaya and Bhagalpur also reported lower daytime temperatures, with Muzaffarpur dipping to around 33.8°C.
The alert covers districts including East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar. These regions could see winds whipping through at 50 to 60 kmph, with heavy rain, thunder, and lightning in the forecast.
In Kishanganj, rainfall ranged from 5.5 mm to nearly 15 mm in different parts, while Patna saw around 4.6 mm of rain. Arwal recorded the lowest with just 0.5 mm, but most districts witnessed a drop in temperatures following the showers.
With volatile weather on the horizon, residents are being urged to stay alert and take shelter when storms strike. The skies may offer relief, but they also bring their own risks.
