Monaco Advances €4.36 Million Architectural Modernization of Fontvieille Shopping Centre as Major Interior Enhancements Near Year-End Completion
Enhancement Project Transforms Everyday Shopping Experience in Fontvieille
FONTVIEILLE, Monaco — In the vibrant southern commercial district of the Principality, the Prince's Government and the Public Works Department (Direction des Travaux Publics) are advancing into the final stages of a comprehensive €4.36 million enhancement project at the Fontvieille Shopping Centre. Entrusted to the renowned Monegasque architecture studio TAG (The A Group), the targeted modernization is overhauling the commercial hub's aesthetic appeal, visitor comfort, and overall luminosity.
Initiated in June 2026 and scheduled for full completion by December 2026, the project revitalizes one of the Principality's most frequented daily retail destinations while maintaining complete business continuity for retailers and shoppers alike.
Backlit Fabric Ceilings, Refined Finishes, and Energy-Efficient Lighting
The architectural renovation focuses on replacing dated fixtures with clean, contemporary lines and bright, airy surfaces. Key interior upgrades include the installation of innovative backlit stretched-fabric ceilings that diffuse uniform, natural-spectrum illumination throughout the main commercial galleria.
Structural columns and walls have received modern, durable acoustic claddings, complemented by newly designed bilingual wayfinding signage and high-efficiency smart LED fixtures that significantly curtail electricity consumption throughout the shopping complex.
Upgraded Escalators, Travelators, and Seamless Customer Access
To ensure universal accessibility for families, elderly residents, and individuals with reduced mobility, the project includes the total replacement and commissioning of heavy-duty escalators and travelators connecting the multi-level underground parking facilities directly to retail gallerias.
Throughout construction, site managers have executed the heaviest structural interventions during nighttime closures using dust-sealed protective screens, allowing the Carrefour hypermarket and dozens of independent specialty shops to welcome customers without disruption from construction noise or dust.
Strategic Bridge Toward Comprehensive Long-Term Restructuring
The enhancement project serves as an essential bridge toward Monaco's broader, long-term masterplan for the total restructuring of Fontvieille. As the National Council and government ministries finalize phased redevelopment strategies for residential, commercial, and leisure spaces across the district, Monegasque officials emphasized that this €4.36 million investment guarantees an attractive, modern, and pleasant shopping experience for residents and cross-border workers today.
