Accelerating Smart Ticketing Across the Merseyrail Network

Parallel to the Baltic station construction, regional transport authority Merseytravel is finalizing the full rollout of its contactless 'Tap and Go' ticketing infrastructure across all 68 Merseyrail network stations. The system allows commuters to utilize contactless bank cards and digital mobile wallets for seamless transit fare calculation, introducing automated best-value fare capping across rail, bus, and Mersey Ferry services.

Transport planners project that modernized smart ticketing and expanded station capacity will drive a 15 percent modal shift away from private automobile use along arterial corridors, directly advancing the Liverpool City Region’s statutory commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Multi-Billion Pound Brownfield Regeneration in North Docks

Meanwhile, civic leaders have formally launched the statutory consultation process to establish a dedicated Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) to spearhead the regeneration of Liverpool's historic North Docks and Ten Streets precincts. Guided by the city's Local Plan to 2043, the framework prioritizes brownfield reclamation to unlock capacity for more than 33,000 sustainable, energy-efficient homes and modern commercial enterprise zones.
