Flooding in Kerr County Causes Significant Damage to Nearly 500 Homes and Businesses

KERRVILLE, Texas – Governor Greg Abbott announced on Monday that approximately 490 homes and 100 businesses in Kerr County have sustained damage due to recent flooding. Of these, 135 homes experienced major damage or were completely destroyed. Residents have requested voluntary cleanup assistance for 219 homes in the county.

As officials monitor the Nueces River, which reached about 9 feet on Monday and is expected to rise an additional five feet, concerns are growing for downstream areas including Cotulla, Tilden, and Carrizo Springs. Evacuations are ongoing in Uvalde, where FM 481 remains closed due to a bridge collapse.

In Kendall County, around 100 homes have been damaged, with the number likely to increase as assessments continue. The flooding has also impacted 52 state-maintained roadways, though only nine remain affected as of Monday. All roads in Kerr County are now open, but repairs are still needed on State Highway 39 and State Highway 16.

During the flooding, first responders rescued over 530 individuals, with two confirmed fatalities linked to the severe weather. A major disaster declaration has been issued for at least 28 counties, including Bexar County, following historic rainfall that caused widespread flooding.
