Man Charged with Murder Following Fourth of July Shooting in Compton
Antoine Jones, 54, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred during a Fourth of July party in Compton. The incident, which took place around 11:20 p.m. at an apartment complex on West Laurel Street, resulted in the deaths of Eric Washington, 37, and Meah Bordenave-Jenkins, 19. Two others were injured but survived.
According to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing and bail review on July 29. Washington was shot by an unknown assailant who remains at large, while Bordenave-Jenkins was struck by gunfire from Jones as attendees fled the scene. Both victims were remembered by their families for their vibrant lives and aspirations.
