Three individuals were killed and four others injured in two separate shootings during Fourth of July block parties in Compton on Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The first shooting occurred at 11:20 p.m. in the 700 block of West Laurel Street, where five people were shot. A 19-year-old woman, identified as Meah Bordenave-Jenkins, and another victim, Eric Washington, a former aide to Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, were pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, a child, and a man were also injured, with the man in critical condition.

Approximately 40 minutes later, a second shooting took place in the 2100 block of North Grandee Avenue, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Thaddeus Clark of Rialto. The Sheriff’s Department stated there is no evidence linking the two shootings. Community leaders have expressed concerns about safety measures in the area, prompting a peace gathering to address gun violence scheduled for Monday evening outside the Compton Courthouse.
