Suspect Identified in Fatal Shooting of CTA Worker in Roseland
Chicago police have released images of a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a 57-year-old CTA switch worker, Kevin Barlow, in the Roseland neighborhood. The incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on June 29, 2026, in the 9800 block of State Street, outside the CTA 98th Street rail maintenance facility. Barlow was shot in the chest and later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Police have not confirmed the motive behind the shooting, and details surrounding the incident remain unclear. A union representing transit workers confirmed Barlow had been employed with the CTA for 18 years.
Following the shooting, authorities recovered a black Mercedes SUV that matched the description of Barlow's vehicle. This vehicle is currently under investigation in connection with a carjacking and homicide, although no direct link has been established.
The suspect is described as wearing a grey hooded top with a bear claw design on the back and dark pants at the time of the shooting. A reward of up to $12,000 is being offered by Union Local 308 and Cook County Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.
