Six Killed in Shooting at Youth Welfare Facility in Stade, Germany

Six adults, including four women, were killed in a shooting at a youth welfare facility in Stade, Germany, on Monday afternoon. The victims, all employees of the shelter, were shot inside the building, with five dying at the scene and a sixth succumbing to injuries in the hospital. Police have arrested two individuals, including the suspected shooter, a 45-year-old male with Turkish roots, who was involved in a custody dispute over his three-month-old daughter.

The incident occurred in a residential area near Hamburg, prompting police to cordon off the scene while forensic experts conducted investigations. Authorities initially advised local residents to avoid the area but later confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Witnesses reported seeing a young man and a woman attempting to flee the scene in a car, which police intercepted after firing at least 15 shots to stop the vehicle. Video footage captured the aftermath, showing police officers attending to the suspects.

Officials stated that the shooting does not appear to be related to political motives or femicide, but rather an extended family tragedy. The youth welfare facility also houses a home for mothers and children, but no one from that part of the facility was harmed.

Local councillor Carsten Brokelmann expressed condolences to the victims' families and praised the police for their response during the chaotic situation. Mass shootings are uncommon in Germany, although there have been notable incidents in recent years.
