Woman Indicted for Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Pleads Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Xiaoke Fan, a woman charged in a wrong-way crash that resulted in the death of a Columbus city employee, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on Monday. The incident occurred on the night of May 4 on state Route 315, where Fan's vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes and collided head-on with another vehicle.
The crash claimed the life of Kaitlyn Spahr, a prosecutor with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, who suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Both drivers involved in the crash were hospitalized in critical condition.
Fan has been indicted on multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated robbery. Court documents reveal that prior to the crash, Fan allegedly threatened another woman with a rock after being given a ride to Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Fan's bond has been set at $3 million, and her next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
