17-Year-Old Joshua Aila Fatally Shot in East Los Angeles; Investigators Seek Dark SUV
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in East Los Angeles. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near Sixth Street and Fraser Avenue at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, where they found the teenager suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim, identified by family and friends as Joshua Aila , was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Family members told investigators that Aila was driving home through the neighborhood when he was targeted. On Sunday evening, loved ones gathered for candlelight memorials at the intersection where the shooting occurred and outside the family's residence.
According to preliminary details released by the Sheriff's Department, a suspect entered a dark-colored SUV and fled the scene heading eastbound on 6th Street. Detectives said it is currently unknown if the shooting is gang-related, and no specific suspect descriptions have been released to the public.
