Sheriff’s Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old in East Los Angeles
Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in East Los Angeles. Deputies were dispatched to the area near Sixth Street and Fraser Avenue at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a male juvenile suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim, identified by family and friends as Joshua Aila , was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Family members told investigators that Aila was driving home through the neighborhood at the time he was targeted. On Sunday evening, loved ones held candlelight memorials at the intersection where the shooting occurred and outside the family's residence.
Preliminary investigation details released by the Sheriff’s Department indicate that a suspect entered a dark-colored SUV and fled the scene heading eastbound on 6th Street. Detectives stated that it is currently unknown if the shooting is gang-related, and no specific suspect descriptions have been provided to the public.
