Six People Found Dead in Cargo Train Boxcar Near Laredo Rail Yard

Six people were found dead inside a cargo train boxcar near a rail yard in Laredo on Sunday afternoon, according to local officials. The Laredo Police Department responded to the scene around 3 p.m. after a Union Pacific employee reported the discovery of multiple casualties within the car.

Investigator Jose Baeza of the Laredo Police Department stated that the investigation is currently fluid and ongoing. Officials have not yet released the ages of the victims or the origin of the train. The rail yard where the bodies were discovered is a large-scale facility used for the loading and unloading of commercial rail cars near the border.

The Webb County medical examiner will conduct autopsies to determine the official cause and manner of death for the six individuals, police said. While a specific cause of death has not been confirmed, data from the National Weather Service shows that temperatures in Laredo reached a high of 97 degrees on the day the bodies were found.

A spokesperson for Union Pacific said the company is working closely with law enforcement as the investigation continues. Laredo serves as a primary commercial trade hub, with Port Laredo accounting for more than 60% of Texas's land port trade. No further information regarding the identities of the deceased has been made public.
