LAPD Arrests Suspect in Attempted Murder Following Venice Sword Attack
Los Angeles police arrested a man Saturday in connection with a sword attack that left a victim with a nearly severed arm outside a Venice apartment complex. Justin Tucker , who is in his late 20s, was taken into custody near Venice Beach on suspicion of attempted murder. The arrest occurred two days after the violent encounter took place in front of the Venice Community Housing building.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident began as an argument between Tucker and a 27-year-old man over disputed property. Witnesses reported that Tucker entered the apartment building during the dispute and returned with a 16-inch samurai sword, which he used to strike the victim. Capt. Brian Churchill of the LAPD’s Pacific Division stated that responding officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm, an action he credited with saving the man's life before he was transported to a local hospital.
Investigators later served a search warrant at the housing complex and recovered the sword from inside the building, police officials said. While Tucker lived at the facility, the victim was not a resident. Erika Lee, co-director of Venice Community Housing, described the event as a "serious, violent incident" and noted that the nonprofit organization is working with residents to address safety concerns following the assault.
Tucker remained at large for approximately 48 hours before his arrest on Saturday afternoon. Following the attack, the housing organization had distributed fliers to residents warning that the suspect was considered armed and dangerous. Tucker is currently being held as the investigation into the attempted murder continues.
