Six Injured in Stabbing at Tacoma High School; Student Arrested on Assault Charges

Six people were injured during a stabbing incident at Foss High School in Tacoma on Thursday, according to police. Authorities said a student was taken into custody and booked on five counts of first-degree assault after four students and an adult security guard were wounded. The suspect, who was also injured, was among those hospitalized.

The Tacoma Fire Department reported that five individuals were transported to hospitals, with four in critical condition and one sustaining minor injuries. A sixth person, identified as the suspect, was also hospitalized with minor injuries. By late afternoon, all six were reported to be in stable condition, according to fire department spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd.

Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd stated that all those injured were either stabbed or cut during the altercation. The school was placed on lockdown at 1:38 p.m., and students were dismissed safely at 2:45 p.m., according to Tacoma Public Schools. A reunification area was established at the school for parents to pick up their children.

Officials announced that classes and after-school activities for Friday were canceled, with plans to reopen the school on Monday. Counselors will be available to support students and staff upon reopening. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
