Dozens Charged in Southern California Mexican Mafia Crackdown
Federal authorities arrested more than two dozen alleged members and associates of the Mexican Mafia in a coordinated operation across Southern California on Thursday, officials said. The FBI and other agencies executed search and arrest warrants at approximately 30 locations, primarily in Orange County, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors stated that 43 individuals, including some already in custody, have been indicted on charges such as murder, kidnapping, extortion, illegal gambling, and drug trafficking. Law enforcement officers seized 120 pounds of methamphetamine, over eight pounds of fentanyl, 25 firearms, and more than $30,000 in cash during the operation.
Court documents allege that one incarcerated leader directed criminal activities from his state prison cell using contraband cellphones between June 2024 and April 2026. The indictment claims he ordered street gang members to kidnap and assault individuals and oversaw the sale of drugs including fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. The organization is also accused of running illegal gambling operations in commercial strip malls and private residences, collecting extortion payments, and providing security through violent means.
The indictment further alleges the gang's involvement in a murder at a motel in Anaheim. The defendants are scheduled to make their initial court appearances Thursday afternoon in federal courts in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
