Five Hospitalized and Homes Damaged After Gas-Related Explosions in San Antonio

On Tuesday evening, two separate explosions in a North Side neighborhood of San Antonio left at least five people hospitalized and forced partial evacuations, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 15000 block of Preston Hollow Drive, near Thousand Oaks Drive, after reports of a residential fire shortly after 6 p.m. Authorities said the initial incident resulted in one child and two adults sustaining burn injuries. All three were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The fire in the first home was extinguished quickly, but the structure suffered extensive damage. Officials indicated that the house may need to be demolished due to its condition.

Nearing 8:30 p.m., a second explosion was witnessed in a neighboring house, accompanied by a loud noise and visible flames. Two more individuals were hospitalized following this blast. Officials believe the original fire was likely associated with a buildup of natural gas, although the investigation into the precise cause continues.

In response to the incidents, emergency crews evacuated part of Preston Hollow Drive. First responders advised residents to leave the affected area and recommended shutting off gas lines for safety. CPS Energy teams were also present at the scene to assist with the situation.

As of Tuesday night, authorities were still working to ensure safety in the neighborhood and determine the factors leading to the explosions. The investigation remains ongoing.
